"This ain't a place miracles ever happen. This ain't a place anything good ever happens. Even the cops don't like coming here, and they gotta come here, least once or twice a month. We get fist fights, knife fights, heads cracked by pool cues, shoulders broke by slamming chairs. Hell, two or three times a year there's always some damn concerned citizen talking about shutting the whole place down on accounta the drunks and drugs and fights and body bags that spill out into their nice clean world. But the clientele we get here, don't nobody want 'em nowhere else, so we don't never get closed down."

On a dull night in a run-down city, the inhabitants of a rough bar find themselves witness to an unlikely miracle of family and forgiveness.

A "seedy" bar sets the tempo for this short story. Typical pool table, poker, darts, lady of the night and the regulars. The regulars all are given nicknames by the bartender and he has their personalities pegged well.

Among the regulars there are Knife, Chainsaw and Godzilla. The latter gives the appearance of ex-military to the barkeep. He looks as though he has "seen too much, done too much and lived too much." If someone is nice to him, however, he is nice back.

In walks Soccer Dad, a 30'ish looking man - he heads straight to Godzilla despite the warning of the bartender. What do you think happens next?

An interesting look into the personas of the bar. I really enjoyed this short story as not only do the characters breathe but there is an inherent message of hope intertwined.

Well done..

Most highly recommended.
